The Slow Death of the Arcade
Arcades are dying.
It is a sad truth that in a world where Steam, GOG, console ports, online gaming, and video game coupons exist, the old arcade is slowly dying out. In the old days, people went to arcades when they wanted to play games with their friends or to meet fellow gamers. They’d get spare change to play titles like Mortal Kombat or Alien vs. Predator (the old Capcom side-scrolling beat-em-up, not th

Video game heroes live a tough life.
There’s always some ridiculously hard quest to accomplish. If its not revenge for having their entire family killed, it’s because their fiancee got kidnapped, or maybe their entire fucking world is being threatened by an evil sorcerer / mad scientist / alien. The Mindless Fun of Casual Games
A lot of people view games as a mindless activity, used to escape into a fantasy world of elves and warriors with massive guns. Wrong.
Gaming can be just as intense a mental activity as working. Portal, for instance, forces players to think in a three-dimensional perspective. When thinking where to use that portal gun, you exert as much brainpower as a pilot trying to land a plane; it’s an exercise in abstrac

Winning Bomber Man Games
In the sands of time, few games, if any, have lasted as long as Bomber Man.
The premise is simple: in a maze, you drop bombs to clear obstacles, as well as wipe out other players. When all obstacles have been removed, it becomes a simple case of outrunning and outmaneuvering each other, while dropping bombs all over the place to kill the other player.
Sure, other games such as Pac Man and Pong might have gone ear

How the App Store Made Me Bankrupt
During my childhood, whenever I wanted a game, I had to save up for it.
It was tradeoff between Donkey Kong or that 5-pack of Hotwheels. I had to choose if I wanted Mario and Red Alert, or if I’ll stick with Lego and my Micro Machines playsets. It was during such heart-wrenching decisions that I learned the value of money.
Then Apple came along, and created the App Store for the iPhone and iPod.
At first, it

Space Invaders Revisited
Sometimes it’s good to go back playing an old school arcade game like Space Invaders. Back in the old days, this was one of the hottest games around.
It is not complicated to play, so anyone can try. You just have to point a laser cannon at the rows of aliens which are trying to invade Earth. The more invaders you kill, the higher your score will be. However, shooting rows of eleven aliens that move horizontally

Statistics vs. Instinct in Games
Someone once theorized that a very skilled, very meticulous statistician would be able to coach a baseball team to success, even if they don’t have any experience. While many would scoff at this idea, it does hold some merit. Statistics and probabilities play a huge role in the average game of baseball; just where do people think those career and game averages on baseball cards come from, anyway?
Some argue,
